DMP-BD30

Well for starters the DMP-BD30 from Panasonic looks great. Ok so it's still full-width black box with a greeny-blue light on the front, but it's also a lot smaller and shorter than most of its rivals.

Where the DMP-BD30 really comes good though is on the technology front: this was the first stand-alone player to conform to the BD 1.1 standard. This provides access to all the new interactive content that studios are beginning to pack their discs with. However, now profile 2.0 is out Panasonic have updated this blu-ray dvd player to the new DMP-BD35 which should be on general sale in the UK shortly.

This does include some weird and wonderful things with no doubt many more to come. Of course there is also the DMP-BD50 available this year.

The Panasonic DMP-BD30 can stream all known variations of high definition audio, which means whatever you current audio set up you will be able to hook the two together.

No complaints with the BD30 on picture front either, with seriously impressive black levels. In 24fps mode it's also excellent with films, with no motion blur and the kind of smooth, non-glitchy performance that not all players can manage.

The DMPBD30 is the sort of blu-ray dvd player Panasonic should have released first. But at least it's here now and with some of the blu-ray discs about to be released it should start to gain in popularity.

Some of the BD 1.1 content such as the 'Car Finder' game in 'Cars' where you're sentenced to scouring the film and 'catching' vehicles leaves a little to be desired but in general the fact the DMP-BD30 supports the new profile is a big bonus point.

The same applies to the audio too – the DMP-BD30 streaming virtually anything you want so no compatibility problems.

To sum up, if you want a Blu-ray Dvd Player then this can certainly be recommended.
